The Boathouse: Delicious Scottish Food and Service at it’s Best – for Humans and Dogs!
The Tasteat55 team were fortunate to visit Perthshire last week, having the chance to stay at Loch Tay Highland Lodges and experience Scottish hospitality first hand.
The Holiday Park was one of the nicest we’ve encountered – however, while staying we also discovered one of the region’s best kept secrets in the form of their on-site restaurant, The Boathouse, which offered delicious home-made Scottish food at very reasonable prices – and regular dishes like pies and burgers for those not brave enough to try traditional dishes like Cullen Skink (a haddock-based soup which we highly recommend trying!)
We particularly liked the traditional Haggis, Neeps and Tatties, but with a lunch menu running from 12-4pm with 2 courses for just £15.95, there was plenty of choice available and impeccable service from the friendly team. We ate at the restaurant several times during our stay, and also had a late night takeaway from the dinner menu, which was also reasonably priced.
The restaurant was super-dog-friendly, and even though we aren’t dog owners now since losing our little dog recently, we were really impressed that in addition to a large human menu, the pub also offered it’s own ‘doggy menu‘, with treats like chicken, rice and veg, as well as fish pasta. It’s the first place we’ve ever seen anything like this and a beautiful dog was gratefully tucking in to a large bowl, which frankly looked good enough for humans too!
This place is truly special and the views across the loch are stunning (I was there but behind the camera, I didn’t make Mark eat alone!)
To be fair, finding good places to eat in nearby towns isn’t terribly difficult, with little cafes and pubs aplenty, but they are all at least a 15 minute drive away and most of them were more expensive – however, none of them offered such a stunning view whilst dining, so if you are staying on site at Loch Tay, the restaurant is definitely a must-try – and if you are staying in nearby Killen or Kenmore, it’s worth the drive, non residents are welcome.
Open Thursday to Monday, the restaurant serves from 12pm to 10pm with plenty of choice, served with a smile, and a great drinks menu to match.
We can’t recommend it highly enough!
